Kit review: Velocio Women’s Trail Anorak

Reviewed by Emily

FEATURES:
This a lightweight cycling specific waterproof jacket, made from the slightly stretchy Pertex Shield Air 3-layer fabric. All the seams are taped, and the hood is cut so that it fits generously over a cycling helmet. The front has a 1/2 length zip at the neck, and a zip up one side at the underarm, and the back is cut longer to give some protection from spray.

SIZE & FIT:
This are available in sizes up to 3X, which fits a 48” bust and a 51.5” hip according to the size chart. I am wearing this size, with a 47” bust and a 53” hip and there is only a little ease at the hips on me. However, given that the fabric has a little stretch it is still really comfortable to wear and does not restrict my movement in any way.

PERFORMANCE:
This is the dream unicorn jacket that I have wanted for bike packing a very long time. It is super super lightweight, will pack down into the back pocket of your cycling jersey if needed. While the fit is a little snugger than I would like around my hips, it is still my go-to choice on days where I need to cycling in wetter weather or to carry when I am uncertain of the conditions. The waterproof fabric has a really nice balance of being waterproof while maintaining breathability (very important for me cycling). I usually wear this over a short sleeved top, and it never feels cold and clammy against my skin even when it is pouring with rain. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who really needs a lightweight waterproof jacket, of which there are very few options in extended sizing, but would probably say that it is best suited if you are well within the size range given on the chart.
