Kit review: Patagonia Torrentshell 3L Jacket

Reviewed by Steph

Last year, Patagonia Europe brought out a range of their clothing in an extended XXL sizing. Among this range (and one of the items stocked by Cotswold Outdoor) is this Torrentshell jacket. A 3-layer waterproof shell jacket, it uses the Patagonia H2No waterproof specification.

FEATURES:

As you'd expect from a Patagonia jacket, it's got high environmental and ethical credentials - made in a Fairtrade certified factory and PFC free. With a good size and adjustable hood, velcro adjustable cuffs and the much sought after pit zips for some added ventilation, it's got the features you'd expect on a jacket at this price point.

SIZE AND FIT:
The size chart lists a 48 inch chest, 41 inch waist and 51 inch hip, and I'm a 46 inch hip, 41 inch waist and 50.5 inch hip, and this jacket fits me fine, but there isn't a lot of ease around my hip so you might struggle if you're much bigger. I find it quite a boxy fit on me, and there's quite a lot of space around my chest, but I'm relatively small around the bust. With the shape it is, I think it'll fit a wide range of people, but if you have a particularly large waist to hip ratio, this might not be the jacket for you. The XXL is a confusing sizing to know who it will fit, but it's pretty equivalent to other brands size 20 coats.

PERFORMANCE:
I've been busy testing it in the soggy British summer, and it's held up well to some fairly heavy rain (see last photo). The pit zips have definitely helped me not get so sweaty on the hottest of days too.

RRP £180
