Kit review: Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket

Reviewed by Steph

It's feeling a lot like autumn, so it's time to start looking at some warmer layers. This jacket from Patagonia is a lightweight synthetic insulated jacket, so it provides a lot of warmth but still folds up really small.

FEATURES:
The jacket is really lightweight and folds up into its own chest pocket, but is really surprisingly warm. It's also really thin, so is a great layer to wear under a waterproof in the winter. One of the biggest wins for me is that because it's synthetic insulation, it also means it's more resilient to rain and weather than a down jacket might be, and stays warm when wet. The shell and insulation are both 100% recycled, as well as being made in a Fair Trade Certified factory.

SIZE AND FIT:
This jacket is part of the the newly available extended XXL sizing from Patagonia. It's useful to know that the sizing is pretty snug on this one - the size chart lists a 48 inch chest, 41 inch waist and 51 inch hip, and I'm a 46 inch chest, 41 inch waist and 50.5 inch hip, and it only just does up on me (especially around the hip) with very little extra space. I'd struggle to wear a bulky layer underneath it. It's probably equivalent to a UK size 20.

PERFORMANCE:
This jacket is really warm, and other than being fairly snug, the shape and fit is good. It's become a go-to jacket to pack for a day on the hills because it folds up so small and is really light. The fact that it stays warm even when wet is a real bonus.
