The Outdoor Research) Aspire II jacket is a waterproof shell designed for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers, and its wide range of sizes makes it a standout choice in the realm of waterproof jackets (the 4X will fit up to a 59 inch bust/61 inch hip.
PERFORMANCE
The jacket is made with GORE-TEX Paclite fabric meaning it offers exceptional waterproofing and breathability. I found that even in relentless rain, I remain dry, with no uncomfortable clamminess. Fully taped seams and quality zippers provide an added layer of water resistance, ideal for those torrential downpours we often get in the UK.
SIZING AND FIT
I found the sizing really good on the Aspire jacket and true to the size chart. I'm wearing the 3X which according to the size chart will fit a 51-55 inch bust, 47.5-51.5 inch waist and 53-57 inch hip, and my measurements are 49 inch bust, 47 inch waist and 55 inch hip. I found the adjustable cuffs and a drawcord hem allow me to fine-tune the fit.
FEATURES
The women's specific fit of this coat manages to flatter the female form while maintaining the functionality I want from a jacket. I found that the articulated elbows and design around the arms/sleeves help ensure unrestricted mobility, whether I'm hiking, climbing, or navigating urban streets. I really like the fact the jacket has 'TorsoFlo' venting which means the jacket can be unzipped all the way from the bicep to the hem, to allow me to cool down fast if I overheat. The adjustable hood, complete with a wire-brimmed halo for added protection, fits comfortably over a helmet (essential as a climber!) or cinches snugly around my head for a secure feel.
In summary, the Outdoor Research Aspire II Jacket is a top-tier performer in terms of waterproofing, sizing, and fit for women. Whilst (like most technical jackets) it isn't cheap, it's an exceptional choice for anyone in need of a dependable outer layer for their outdoor adventures, and the fact it's available up to such large sizes is brilliant.
