Kit review: Labo Mono Go-Go Jacket

Reviewed by Steph

A good plus size waterproof is VERY hard to find, and this jacket is described as having an inclusive fit. To see how it measures up, Ali from Labo Mono kindly sent us one to test out. I’m wearing the XL (I normally wear a size 20-22, with a 45 inch chest, 41 inch waist and 51 inch hip) and this fits me with room to spare. The great news is that the coat goes up to an XXL (50 inch chest and 63 inch hip) so might fit a UK size 24?!

Unisex jackets normally fit terribly, but this one has a pretty unique design in it has a hip zip (see second pic) that means it actually fits hips/bums/tums really well. There is a tiny bit of bunching at the back because of this, but nothing too noticeable. It also makes it a great fit for cycling as it’s not snug when sat down.

The pros: It’s super comfy (the material has a bit of stretch to it), it’s got some lovely technical details (pit zips, interior pockets, reflective reversible cuffs, amazing hood), a 20,000mm hydrostatic head (though I’ve not had any really heavy rain to try it out in yet!), and it’s made of recycled plastic bottles (who doesn’t love that). It also feels very high quality, with metal zips etc and comes in some great colours/patterns.

The cons: It might not be the best fit for shorter folk. I’m 5’10 and it’s great on me but I tried it on my friend Scruff who is 5’3 with narrower shoulders and it wasn’t such a great fit on her (longggg sleeves!). And whilst it’s relatively lightweight (the XL is a smidge over 700g) it’s significantly heavier than my other waterproof, so better for day walks/rides than bike packing or multi-day walks.

All in all, I’d say this is a pretty great option when compared to other coats available above a size 20!
