Kit review: Acai Outdoorwear mid length trail shorts
Reviewed by Steph
The folks at Acai Outdoorwear sent us some of the new mid-length trek shorts to try out, which are now available up to a size 22. As someone who has been hunting hard for hiking shorts, I have been busy testing them out.
The first thing to say about these shorts is they are COMFY. They are really stretchy and are super high waisted (higher than my skinny Acai trousers in fact). I'd go so far as to say they're possibly the best fitting shorts/trousers I have around my stomach as they come high over my belly and then are super stretchy around my hip and bum. They are also super lightweight and so great for warm summer days.
I have a 41 inch waist and 51 inch hip and fit comfortably in the size 22 (the maximum size they do) which lists a 39-40 inch waist and a 49-50 inch hip so I'd say the fit is accurate to their size chart.
For me, the only issue I found is with the length of the shorts. They are fine on a shorter walk, but if I'm out all day, I did find they rode up a bit and there's a bit of chub rub potential. Ideally I'd prefer shorts maybe an inch or two longer to stop this happening. I am quite tall (5’10) so they may be better on shorter folk.
I think for me these probably straddle the daily life/outdoors boundary well (I’ve definitely worn them when cycling to work etc) but for me they are just a bit too short to be practical for a really long hike.
