Kit review: Sprayway Era Jacket

Reviewed by Steph

Finding a waterproof that will keep you dry for a day in the hills and mountains, but that is also packable and light enough to carry with you can be a challenge. As part of their expansion into size 20 items, Sprayway have a number of jackets available including this GORE-TEX Era jacket.

FEATURES:

This is made from a 2 layer GORE-TEX 50D fabric that is PFC free and recycled, and pretty lightweight. It's got a really good sized hood with a wired peak, adjustable cuffs so you can tighten up around your wrists, and the ability to cinch in around the bottom using a drawstring. There's two zippered pockets, and a third velcro pocket in the chest that is large enough for a map.

SIZE AND FIT:

According to the size chart this will fit a 44 inch chest, 38 inch waist and 48 inch hip. I'm a 46 inch chest, 41 inch waist and 51 inch hip and this coat fits me really well, with plenty of space for a couple of layers underneath - I could easily fit an insulated jacket without it being tight. It also has a larger bust to hip difference than I've found on some other jackets, so is especially good if you're a pear shape like me. It also fits really well around my chest and arms, without a lot of the baggy excess fabric I've found with some other jackets, and doesn't move around when I lift my arms etc

PERFORMANCE:

This is a really comfortable and well fitting jacket to wear, and it fits well with a single layer underneath, or bundled up with a thick insulating layer underneath. It's proved its waterproof calibre through some really rainy conditions, and held up really well (definitely a level up having a GORE-TEX jacket), and I've also not struggled with getting too hot and sweaty either. All in all, a worthy investment!
